Mission Hills Community Preschool

Preschool & Childcare

About

Established in 1971 and operating under California Community Care License #370800381 with a 34-child capacity, Mission Hills Community Preschool runs a Reggio-inspired, play-based program on West Lewis Street in Mission Hills. The school was founded as a ministry of Mission Hills United Church of Christ and continues to operate on the congregation's campus as a nonprofit public benefit corporation serving children ages two through five. A 1-to-7 teacher-to-child ratio supports an emergent, inquiry-based curriculum that leans on social-emotional development, critical thinking, and child-led project work rather than scripted instruction. Early literacy programming partners with neighborhood institutions including The Mission Hills-Hillcrest/Knox Branch Library for storytime visits and rotating book collections. The most in-depth work happens in the pre-kindergarten classroom, where four-year-olds carry multi-week investigations from hypothesis through documentation in the Reggio documentation-panel tradition.
