About

Operating under a format that originated as a San Ysidro tortilleria in 1964, Roberto's Taco Shop at 420 Robinson Ave in 92103 carries a menu rooted in one of the first Mexican fast-casual chains in the United States. The kitchen runs the same California burrito template—carne asada, french fries, sour cream, and guacamole wrapped in an oversized flour tortilla—that the Robledo family helped popularize across more than 80 locations, a walk-up format now standard at San Diego taco counters including Crest Taco in the same neighborhood. Rolled tacos, carne asada fries, and 22 combination plates follow recipes scaled without modification from the original National City shop. A late-night kitchen window keeps the full burrito and plate menu available for the after-hours crowd, filling a gap on Robinson Ave that complements the late-service programs at Tacaliente Mexican Grill nearby. The largest combination plates pair entrées with rice, beans, and handmade tortillas for the heaviest single-ticket order on the menu.
