We Strive for Literacy is a 501(c)(3) in Encinitas's New Encinitas corridor deploying EBLI-certified tutors to close the K-12 reading gap through high-dosage, evidence-based literacy instruction on North El Camino Real. The nonprofit's first pilot program launched at a Boys & Girls Club site using the same community-center delivery model that Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest San Diego's Griset Clubhouse uses to reach underserved youth in the 92024 ZIP. A formalized partnership with California State University San Marcos recruits and certifies college students as EBLI tutors, building a pipeline of reading instructors trained in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and integrated writing. That comprehensive literacy scope parallels the individualized academic support at Answers, Plus! Educational Services, though We Strive for Literacy focuses exclusively on the science of reading for students performing below grade level. Internal program data show over 90 percent of enrolled students gaining at least one full grade level in reading proficiency within six to twelve hours of structured one-on-one EBLI instruction across all six integrated literacy strands.
