About

The Rhoades Middle School campus on Encinitas Boulevard serves grades 6 through 8 as one of three Encinitas locations in The Rhoades School system, which has operated since 1980. The inquiry-based, constructivist curriculum targets gifted and high-achieving students, and field-study programming extends into Encinitas's cultural institutions including Encinitas Historical Society and 1883 Schoolhouse on South Coast Highway 101. WASC accreditation and Apple Distinguished School designation underscore the technology-rich classroom model, where project-based assignments integrate iPad-driven research and collaborative digital portfolios. An elective Mandarin language program introduces middle-school students to tonal phonetics and character-based writing systems alongside the standard college-preparatory track. Physical-development programming connects students with discipline-based movement training available at Center For Martial Arts on Rancho Santa Fe Road. The middle-school capstone requires student teams to research community-facing issues, propose solutions, and present findings in a public-defense format modeled on collegiate seminar standards.
