Quartyard in downtown San Diego's East Village occupies an 11,000-square-foot lot at 13th and Market built entirely from repurposed shipping containers, a format conceived as the thesis project of three NewSchool of Architecture & Design graduates who launched RAD Lab and opened the original site in 2015. The outdoor stage hosts a genre-spanning live calendar ranging from indie rock to electronic DJs and touring comedians, programming that runs parallel to the indoor bookings at Music Box a few blocks west. RAD Lab designed the modular bar, coffee counter, kitchen, and office structures to be fully transportable — the entire venue relocated from its original Park Boulevard site to the current Market Street parcel in 2018 when the city sold the first lot for high-rise development. A fenced dog run, rotating mural installations, and weekly night markets extend the programming beyond music into a broader community-activation model near Petco Park. Twenty-six rotating taps pour almost exclusively San Diego craft beer, sourcing from breweries across the county including East Village neighbor Mission Brewing. Full-venue buyouts accommodate up to 550 guests with turnkey A/V, a dedicated production stage, and in-house catering for weddings, corporate events, and multi-day festival builds.
