Mimmo's

Italian & Pizza

About

Mimmo's in downtown San Diego's Little Italy is one of three original restaurants still standing in the neighborhood, founded in 1973 by Vincenzo Mimmo Gaglio after he trained in kitchens across Tunisia, New York City, and Ontario, California. Now in its third generation, the Gaglio family turns out scratch-made Sicilian pasta, house-baked focaccia, and arancini from the same India Street address where the thin-crust counter at Landini's Pizzeria draws its own slice-focused crowd one block south. The build-your-own pasta option lets diners pair a base — campanelle, linguine, pappardelle, penne — with a house-made sauce and protein, a customizable format anchored by signatures like spicy shrimp linguine and campanelle sausage. An indoor dining room designed to resemble a Sicilian village streetscape — painted facades, wrought-iron balconies, stone archways — wraps around the tables, flanked by alfresco front and back patios on India Street. The in-house deli and sandwich counter slices imported Italian meats and cheeses to order, a charcuterie operation that parallels the cured-meat focus at J & Tony's Discount Cured Meats and Negroni Warehouse in the neighborhood. Private group buyouts for up to 75 guests with multi-course Sicilian family-style menus handle the largest events the third-generation kitchen books on India Street.
