The Dutra Inn in downtown San Diego's Little Italy neighborhood operates as a five-room micro-inn inside the Dutra Brown building, an architectural assembly of salvaged materials designed by San Diego architect James Brown. Reclaimed 20-foot naval train station doors frame the street-level loft entrance on West Beech Street, one block from the India Street restaurant corridor where Kettner Exchange anchors the Kettner Boulevard dining scene. Each room carries a distinct character — lofted bedrooms reached by ladder, a repurposed Spanish wooden bar, Chemex pour-over stations stocked with local Dark Horse beans — unified by Tuft & Needle mattresses and Parachute linen throughout. The building sits on the LIND block, a planned Little Italy Neighborhood Development infill where multiple San Diego architects contributed individual structures to the same street frontage. Private patios and a fourth-floor common lawn give guests outdoor space in a neighborhood better known for the cocktail culture at bars like Craft & Commerce. Full-building rental of all five rooms converts the inn into a private event venue for photo shoots, filmed content, and multi-day production work.
