Happy Does Bar

Bars & Pubs

About

Happy Does Bar in downtown San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter is a retro indoor-outdoor bar that Good Time Design opened in April 2022 at 340 Fifth Avenue, named after the Kenny Chesney song of the same title. The venue splits into a sun-facing patio that welcomes dogs, a karaoke bar, a game hall, and Club Happy — an interior dance space where resident DJ Legend spins 1980s, 1990s, and throwback hits mixed with current pop, running the same multi-zone entertainment format that GTD built into its country-music venue The Deck at Moonshine Flats blocks away. GTD corporate chef Todd Nash and pit master Ivan Munoz developed the food program around the Smash Diego burger (served upside down), the Big Kenny chicken sandwich, and jumbo chicken tenders built for sharing. Good Time Design, founded in 2006 by hospitality entrepreneur Ty Hauter, operates more than a dozen venues across San Diego and Nashville, with Happy Does fitting the group's template of high-energy neighborhood bars anchored by signature food items and curated DJ programming. The Gaslamp patio doubles as a Padres pre-game staging ground, drawing the same Fourth-and-Fifth-Avenue foot traffic that feeds Star Bar up the block. Full-venue buyouts package the patio, karaoke bar, game hall, and Club Happy into a single private-event footprint.
