Star Bar in downtown San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter has anchored the corner of Fourth Avenue and E Street since 1974, making it one of the district's oldest continuously operating bars. The elongated interior houses a deep whiskey wall stocked with uncommon bourbons alongside a 17-tap draft line, a spirits-forward format paired with pool tables and pinball machines in the same game-bar tradition as The Tipsy Crow elsewhere in the Gaslamp. San Diego-based Oceanic Enterprises acquired the building in 2021 and launched a 2.0 refresh that added specialty cocktails and an outdoor patio without stripping the dive-bar identity that carried the bar to its 50th-anniversary milestone in 2024. Tuesday karaoke nights and monthly last-Wednesday pool tournaments keep a weekly programming calendar spinning on the same E Street corridor that connects to East Village Tavern+Bowl to the east. The bourbon-and-whiskey program stocks rare small-batch labels deep enough to anchor dedicated Wednesday tasting nights beyond the standard dive-bar pours.
