About

Shibuya Nights in downtown San Diego's Little Italy fills a neon-lit back room at 1953 India Street, a Harajuku-inspired speakeasy opened in 2022 by co-owner Cesar Vallin within a 7,500-square-foot Japanese dining complex. The lounge shares its roof with Cloak and Petal but runs a separate Asian-fusion kitchen of short rib rolled tacos and chicken karaage waffles rather than sushi rolls, giving diners two distinct menus under one address. Graffiti murals, a canopy of artificial cherry blossoms, and origami bird lights suspended above the bar create a Tokyo-subway atmosphere designed to feel removed from the India Street sidewalk above. Co-founders include Tajima ramen owner-chef Isamu Morikizono and Seitaro Takahashi, who operates 30 restaurants across Japan — a partnership that grounds the concept in the same Japan-to-San-Diego culinary pipeline feeding the tonkotsu program at Underbelly on J Street. The signature format is the full small-plate progression paired with the cocktail bar's inventive drink menu in a private neon-washed setting.
