Morning Glory

Coffee & Tea

About

Morning Glory in downtown San Diego's Little Italy is a Consortium Holdings restaurant that earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand designation for its globally inspired breakfast and brunch menu. The kitchen turns out Japanese soufflé pancakes, Georgian khachapuri, breakfast carbonara with bucatini and crispy pork belly, and Middle Eastern shakshuka — a scope of technique rare in the breakfast category and distinct from the classic American lineup at Breakfast Republic downtown. The women-owned restaurant occupies a 4,000-square-foot, second-story dining room above Little Italy's Piazza Della Famiglia, designed by BASILE Studio with mirrored ceilings, pink terrazzo floors, and articulating copper-clad windows that open the space to the streetscape below. A full cocktail bar anchors the room, serving boozy coffee drinks and morning cocktails that lean on the same spirits-forward approach Consortium Holdings applies at Craft & Commerce in the evening hours. The build-out topped $4 million and took three years from concept to its 2019 debut, with custom walnut woodwork and brass fixtures nodding to Frank Lloyd Wright. The kitchen's highest-complexity offering is the breakfast dim sum cart — a roving, multi-course tableside service of small dishes available on select days.
