The women-owned studio was founded by Cecilia, an award-winning educator who previously co-founded Coder Kids on the East Coast in 2016, where students won regional and national coding competitions and two launched an award-winning nonprofit. Students begin with Roblox Studio, learning foundational modeling and scripting techniques by building mini-games, then advance to Python on a curriculum mapped to AP Computer Science Principles requirements. The teaching approach draws from MIT Media Lab's constructionist philosophy, emphasizing creation from day one rather than passive instruction. Every wall in the studio doubles as a whiteboard, inspired by Google's collaborative workspaces, and the low 1:4 instructor-to-student ratio ensures each child receives personalized guidance. Instructors are UCSD Computer Science and Engineering students, hired for their passion for teaching and then trained extensively in Ember's proprietary video-based, self-paced curriculum. The tennis center location means kids can pair coding with sports, heading straight to tennis, swimming, volleyball, or golf before or after their 50-minute session.
