Inside Hotel Del Coronado's shopping village, Spreckels Sweets And Treats occupies a 1,014-square-foot retail space at 1500 Orange Avenue on Coronado Island, named after John Spreckels, the industrialist who invested in the landmark resort over a century ago. The shop is owned and operated by Hotel Del Coronado as part of its on-property retail program, sharing the resort's guest foot traffic with Serea Coastal Cuisine and other dining venues within the 1888 property. Springfield Design of San Diego created the period-themed interior in two sections — a children's candy area anchored by red, white, and checkerboard Forbo linoleum tile flooring, and an adult chocolate section finished in black-and-white corel marble counters and distressed bead board cabinetry. Handmade fudge, truffles, taffy, and Sweet Shop USA chocolates fill the glass cases alongside candy-by-the-pound bins and the resort's Spreckels mascot dog branding — a confection program that draws the same evening crowd heading to Lamb's Players Theatre on Orange Avenue. Replica milk glass light fixtures fitted with low-voltage MR-16 bulbs and hand-rubbed distressed black cabinetry complete the Victorian-era candy shop aesthetic designed to reflect Hotel Del Coronado's original 1888 architectural period.
