About

Migoto Judo Dojo teaches the Olympic sport of judo in Chula Vista's Eastlake community from its Windward Way facility, registered as Club 4215 with the United States Judo Association. Head Sensei Roland Fernando, a third-degree black belt with more than 20 years of instruction and nationally certified by the USJF, USJA, and USA Judo, leads a coaching staff that includes a fifth-degree black belt with over 60 years of mat experience—a depth of competitive judo knowledge that pairs with the holistic wellness programming at Kyra Kare Health & Wellness. The dojo has hosted visiting clinicians including World and Olympic champion Clarisse Agbegnenou, connecting Eastlake students to elite international-level instruction. Spring-loaded mats cushion high-amplitude throws during randori sessions, and a coaching staff member who placed first at the California State Championships and sixth at Senior Nationals trains advanced competitors in tournament-specific techniques. Falling technique—ukemi—is drilled from the first class through advanced belt ranks, building the breakfall reflexes that protect judoka during full-speed ippon-scoring throws, a flexibility and body-awareness foundation reinforced by the mobility work at Yoga Box. Competition students prepare for Nanka Judo sanctioned tournaments through timed randori rounds scored under International Judo Federation rules.
