About

SEA LIFE Aquarium in Carlsbad houses more than 5,000 marine creatures representing over 350 species across 16 interactive exhibit zones inside the LEGOLAND California Resort campus on Legoland Drive. An acrylic walk-through ocean tunnel places blacktip reef sharks, cownose rays, and green sea turtles overhead, while a Giant Pacific Octopus display and dedicated seahorse habitat round out the deep-water galleries — a precision-engineering sensibility shared by the miniature machining exhibits at Craftsmanship Museum. The aquarium opened in August 2008 as the first SEA LIFE installation in the United States and operates as a Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch conservation partner, running marine biologist-led feeding demonstrations and educational talks on coastal ecology. Interactive touchpool stations hold sea stars, urchins, and abalone for hands-on contact, reinforcing the same tide-pool biodiversity visitors encounter in the estuarine habitats along Carlsbad Lagoon Recreation Area. The 600-gallon Shark and Ray Lagoon tank circulates temperature-controlled saltwater through a filtration system supporting multiple elasmobranch species within a viewing depth engineered for child-height sightlines.
