City of Carlsbad Fire Station 2 in the La Costa area of Carlsbad operates from a 10,000-square-foot facility rebuilt in 2022 at the corner of Arenal Road and El Camino Real in the 92009 ZIP code, adjacent to the Omni La Costa Resort. The $14.4 million reconstruction — approved by 71 percent of Carlsbad voters in 2016 — expanded the original 1969-era station by nearly 180 percent to accommodate five emergency response vehicles including a 60-foot aerial ladder truck, and its response territory encompasses high-density tourism zones such as LEGOLAND California Resort. Station 2's five-person crew responds to more than 4,000 calls annually, up from roughly 250 when the original station housed a single firefighter serving the then-unincorporated La Costa community. During the two-year rebuild, apparatus and crew relocated to a temporary structure on the Carlsbad City Library campus at Dove Lane, maintaining continuous emergency coverage for the La Costa corridor. The rebuilt facility incorporates rooftop solar panels, LED lighting, two public EV charging stations, and a commissioned fused-glass facade installation integrated into the south- and west-facing elevations visible from El Camino Real.
