Mitchell Thorp Foundation is a Carlsbad-based 501(c)(3) founded in 2009 to support families whose children face life-threatening illnesses, diseases, and disorders, operating from Faraday Avenue in the 92008 commercial corridor. Rather than issuing lump-sum grants, the foundation pays essential bills directly—mortgage, utilities, groceries, gas for hospital visits, and ADA home and vehicle modifications—through customized care plans, a model that has distributed over $3 million to date and involves event catering from Vigilucci's Catering and Private Events at annual fundraising galas. The annual Warrior Spirit 5K Run/Walk and Family Festival at Poinsettia Park rallies the Carlsbad community each February, drawing participants from across San Diego County.
