Built in 1961, Buena Vista Elementary School in Carlsbad is one of the oldest campuses in the Carlsbad Unified School District, serving grades K–6 from Buena Vista Way in the 92008 ZIP code. District-wide enrichment grants funded through the Carlsbad Educational Foundation support classroom technology, arts integration, and science materials at Buena Vista and every other CUSD elementary site. The 2023–24 enrollment of 288 students maintains one of the smaller class configurations in the district, and the school holds a Gifted & Talented program alongside standard K–6 instruction. Outdoor science lessons draw on the trail system at nearby Hosp Grove Park, where 35 acres of coastal sage scrub provide a field-study habitat less than a mile from campus. Buena Vista feeds into Valley Middle School and ultimately Carlsbad High School, completing a western-Carlsbad academic corridor that dates to the district's post-war expansion era.
