MiraCosta College Technology Career Institute in Carlsbad delivers accelerated, hands-on certificate programs from its 2075 Las Palmas Drive facility, just off Palomar Airport Road near the Omni La Costa Resort corridor. The machinist technology curriculum trains students on industry-standard CNC lathes and mills within 21 weeks or fewer, producing graduates whose precision work echoes the engineering heritage preserved at the Craftsmanship Museum on Armada Drive. Certificate tracks also include engineering technician, unmanned systems ROV/drone technician, biomedical equipment technician, welding, electronics, and craft brewing — each developed in partnership with North County employers in aerospace, defense, and biotech manufacturing. A U.S. Department of Labor grant of $2.75 million helped fund the institute's equipment and curriculum, and workplace safety training aligns with programs offered through the City of Carlsbad Safety Training Center. The electronics engineering technician track alone requires 54 hours of direct-current circuit analysis, series-parallel troubleshooting, and transistor/semiconductor lab work before certification.
