The Santee Teen Center at Big Rock Park in Santee is a City of Santee–operated after-school recreation program serving pre-teens and teens in grades 5 through 12 at the 8115 Arlette Street facility. The center sits adjacent to Chet F Harritt School at 8120 Arlette Street, and the City coordinates after-school bus transportation from Santee School District campuses in grades 6 through 8 directly to the Big Rock Park site. Programming rotates through indoor and outdoor activities including basketball, sand volleyball, and tennis on the park's courts, with access to the nearby Cowles Mountain trailhead for structured hiking outings. Teens participate in activity design and implementation, and daily homework assistance is built into the after-school schedule. SD Nights—a County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation initiative—runs free monthly events at the center for ages 10 through 17, expanding the recreation footprint beyond annual members to include drop-in participants from the broader East County area served by facilities including Mast Park on Carlton Hills Boulevard. All staff hold City of Santee employment credentials with current CPR and first-aid certification, Department of Justice background clearance, and specialized training in adolescent program facilitation.
