Mary's Donuts & Coffee in Santee is an East County bakery institution on Carlton Hills Boulevard, operating continuously since founder Mary Hennessy opened the original shop on Fanita Drive in 1984. The bakery relocated in 2016 to 8959 Carlton Hills Boulevard in the shopping center anchored by GTM Stores, bringing its signature six-inch apple fritters and full donut production to a larger retail footprint near Santee Lakes. The menu spans raised, cake, and specialty donuts including maple bacon bars, red velvet, and cream puffs filled with custard, chocolate mousse, lemon, raspberry, blueberry, or coconut. Mary's employs approximately 40 staff at the Santee location and also operates a Lakeside outpost, extending the brand's four-decade East County presence into a multi-location operation recognized by the Santee Chamber of Commerce on Town Center Parkway.
