Phil Thearle's Autowerks in Santee has anchored the west end of Mission Gorge Road at Highway 52 since 1983, completing over 50,000 collision repairs across four decades. The 50,000-square-foot purpose-built facility holds OEM certifications from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Jaguar, Land Rover, Lexus, Infiniti, and fourteen additional manufacturers, a depth of factory authorization that positions the shop alongside multi-brand certified facilities including Caliber Collision on Wheatlands Avenue. As San Diego County's sole Jaguar and Land Rover Certified Aluminum Auto Repair Center and a Factory Authorized BMW Aluminum Repair Center, the facility maintains dedicated aluminum-only clean rooms that prevent cross-contamination between ferrous and non-ferrous metals during structural repair. Post-collision drivetrain diagnostics sometimes reveal torque-converter or valve-body damage invisible at the point of impact, and the shop routes those cases to Advanced Automatic Transmissions on Ablette Road for bench testing and rebuild. The aluminum clean room runs a separate HVAC filtration loop and dedicated rivet-bonding stations that apply structural adhesive per Jaguar's JLRQ specification before setting self-piercing rivets at factory-prescribed torque values.
