Spring is when Coronado comes alive with its most beloved community traditions. While summer draws the tourists and the Fourth of July parade draws the crowds, spring belongs to the residents — a season of flower shows, home tours, charity runs, and neighborhood gatherings that have been part of island life for generations. Here's what's on the calendar for spring 2026.
104th Coronado Flower Show — April 18–19
The Coronado Flower Show is the largest tented flower show in the United States and the island's longest-running tradition, dating back to 1922. Held at Spreckels Park in the heart of the village, this two-day event fills most of a city block with landscape displays, floral competitions across five divisions, educational lectures, demonstrations, live bandstand entertainment, food vendors, and a beer and wine garden featuring locally crafted brews. This year's theme is "Welcome to the Jungle" — inviting visitors into a lush world of tropical foliage, dramatic textures, and botanical theatrics. Over 250 volunteers from the Coronado Floral Association make it happen each year, in partnership with the City of Coronado.
Annual Historic Home Tour — May 10
The Coronado Historical Association's Annual Historic Home Tour returns on Mother's Day, May 10, 2026. The tour offers a rare chance to step inside some of the island's most architecturally significant private homes — from Victorians and Spanish Colonials to Craftsman bungalows and midcentury gems. Early-bird tickets are available to CHA members, with general admission tickets released in limited quantities later in the spring. For anyone interested in Coronado's architectural heritage — or simply curious about what's behind those beautiful front doors — this is the event of the year.
Ruff Run 5K
The Ruff Run is a 5K run/walk celebrating Coronado's furry residents. Proceeds provide immediate funds for veterinary care, emergency surgeries, and shelter upgrades at the PAWS shelter on Coronado Island. Dogs are welcome but not required to participate. It's a community favorite that blends fitness, charity, and the island's unmistakable love of dogs.
More Spring Happenings
The Coronado Public Library hosts author talks and community reading events throughout the spring, including appearances tied to the 10th annual Coronado Community READ program. She Talks, a nationally recognized event series, brings women together for storytelling and community building. The Emerald Keepers Fixit Clinic, co-sponsored by the library and the City of Coronado, invites residents to bring broken items for repair rather than landfill. And the Spreckels Center on Seventh Street runs a full slate of spring fitness, wellness, and enrichment programming for the 50-plus community.
