About

Moored on Shelter Island Drive in Point Loma, the 139-foot Yacht America replicates the 1851 America's Cup-winning schooner and sails 4-hour whale-watching and private-charter trips under the Next Level Sailing brand. The vessel won the 2021 America's Schooner Cup, the annual charity regatta hosted by Silver Gate Yacht Club that directs proceeds to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. Built in 1995 in Albany, New York by Scarano Boat Designs, the hull carried the Olympic torch to the 1996 Atlanta Olympics sailing venue in Savannah before changing hands to Historic Tours of America and finally Next Level Sailing in 2005, which sailed it through the Panama Canal to San Diego. Low sweeping decks, a deep keel for stability, and 77-passenger capacity support both group whale-watching trips and private events including weddings, rehearsal dinners, corporate charters, and film and media production. Gray whale migration routes observed from Cabrillo National Monument's 400-foot elevated overlook run directly alongside the December-to-April sailing path, providing the land-and-sea counterparts to the same annual Pacific gray whale spectacle. Whale-sighting guarantees pair with a no-seasickness guarantee, and catering partnerships with San Diego restaurants plus onboard live music support the most complex bookings, from corporate cocktail cruises and full-production wedding ceremonies with dinner to multi-day Pacific Coast sailing deliveries running from San Diego through the Panama Canal toward the East Coast.
