About

Shoreline Park in Point Loma, administered by the Port of San Diego along the bayside length of Shelter Island, runs a mile of grass promenade, picnic areas, and public artwork between the marina basin and San Diego Bay. The mid-park T-shaped fishing pier extends 200 feet into the bay with Fathom Bistro, Bait, and Tackle operating mid-pier for rod rentals, live bait, sandwiches, and craft beers within casting distance of the railings. Common catches from the pier include yellowfin croaker, Pacific mackerel, sand bass, halibut, and barracuda, with no fishing license required inside the 200-foot pier boundary under California pier-angler regulations. Grass areas stretch for a full mile along the promenade with picnic tables, BBQ grills, two playground structures, public restrooms, and parking lots at the north and south ends plus street parking along Shelter Island Drive. The park's southern end neighbors the open-air amphitheater at Humphrey's Concerts by the Bay, where summer concert crowds overflow onto the park grass for pre-show picnic gatherings. Port of San Diego permits cover organized events ranging from wedding receptions at the Yokohama pagoda lookout to drone filming and gatherings above 25 people, with the boat-launch ramp on the south end ranking as the highest-volume public launch ramp in California.
