Founded in 2011 at Liberty Station in Point Loma, San Diego, Mission Edge is a 501(c)(3) social enterprise that provides outsourced accounting, human-resources administration, and fiscal sponsorship to nonprofits and community-benefit organizations that lack the scale to staff those functions internally. The fiscal-sponsorship program allows emerging projects to operate under Mission Edge's tax-exempt umbrella, accepting tax-deductible donations and applying for grants without incorporating a separate nonprofit entity — a launch mechanism used by arts organizations in the same Liberty Station corridor, including Apt 4 Music. Since launch, Mission Edge has supported more than 500 organizations nationwide, offering fractional-CFO services, compliance management, and financial reporting that free executive directors to focus on program delivery rather than back-office operations. The Impact Lab, a free ten-week finance-coaching program, pairs small-business owners and nonprofit leaders with individual finance experts to build revenue models, set growth targets, and develop sustainable budgets. That capacity-building mission aligns Mission Edge with stewardship-focused organizations such as The San Diego River Park Foundation, both working to strengthen the operational infrastructure that sustains San Diego's social sector. The most complex client engagements involve onboarding multi-million-dollar nonprofits onto new accounting systems while simultaneously preparing them for independent financial audits — a transition that can span six months of parallel bookkeeping and staff training.
