About

Operating from Building 20 at 140 Sylvester Road on Point Loma, San Diego, COMSUBPAC SSEP San Diego is the Pacific detachment of the Submarine Surveillance Equipment Program under Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet. The program maintains and calibrates undersea surveillance sensor suites aboard fast-attack submarines homeported at Naval Base Point Loma, ensuring acoustic and electronic detection systems meet fleet-readiness certification standards before each deployment. Technicians at the Sylvester Road facility perform depot-level maintenance on towed-array sonar components, hull-mounted transducer assemblies, and signal-processing hardware that feed submarine combat-control systems. The program's work aligns with the broader submarine-force mission supported by COMSUBRON Eleven, the squadron headquartered on the same installation that oversees the four Los Angeles-class boats assigned to Point Loma. SSEP's highest-complexity task is integrating next-generation acoustic-processing upgrades into legacy submarine platforms during availabilities, synchronizing hardware installation, software validation, and at-sea testing within compressed maintenance windows.
