Kirksville College DO and FACSM/FAAFP/FAOASM Fellow Dr. E. Lee Rice in Point Loma founded San Diego Sports Medicine and Family Health Center in 1980 and opened Lifewellness Institute at Liberty Station in 2001. The sports medicine practice has served as team physician for the San Diego Chargers, USA Volleyball through four Olympiads, and multiple America's Cup sailing campaigns, building injury-prevention protocols that now inform the Liberty Station clinic's approach to civilian athletes through providers such as Spine & Sport Physical Therapy - Point Loma. Board-certified in Family Medicine with a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine and a Diplomate of the American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine, Dr. Rice co-founded and served as past president of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. The Lifewellness Institute at 2448 Historic Decatur Rd Suite 130 runs Project L.I.F.E. (Lifestyle Interventions for Executives) and the Chief Wellness Officer program, which won the 2004 AstraZeneca Healthy Heart Award. Rehabilitation referrals from the practice route to campus-adjacent providers including Community Care Physical Therapy- Liberty Station for post-surgical and return-to-sport progressions. Executive health evaluations integrate comprehensive lab panels, cardiac stress testing, body-composition analysis, and genetic risk-factor screening into a single-day workup designed for C-suite patients.
