Wood-fired pizza veteran Chef Jimmy launched Pizza Cassette in Point Loma, San Diego in 2022 after training on ovens since 2014 at La Jolla's Catania Coastal Italian, building a two-chef Neapolitan pizzeria inside The Gärten, a shared outdoor venue on Banks Street. The wood-fired oven produces music-themed pies—the Queen, the Elvis, the Soprano—alongside sandwiches and meatballs on a 150-person patio shared with Deft Brewing's tap wall, creating a beer-and-pizza pairing that neither operation could build alone. Live music runs Friday through Sunday with open-mic Wednesdays and trivia Thursdays, turning the Banks Street patio into a performance venue that doubles as a pizzeria—a format rare in the Midway District San Diego dining scene. The dough program produces a hand-tossed Neapolitan crust with a crisp exterior and airy interior, fired at high heat in the wood oven and dressed with house-made sauces that rotate with the weekly pizza specials. Mead from Lost Cause Meadery and wine from Oddish round out the drink program beyond Deft's beer taps, giving the shared venue a three-producer beverage lineup uncommon outside dedicated food halls. Mobile catering deploys the wood-fired oven to private events, scaling the same Neapolitan dough program and music-venue energy into off-site pizza service for weddings, corporate parties, and festivals across San Diego County.
