About

Founded in Los Angeles in 1902 and relocated to its Point Loma peninsula campus in 1973, Point Loma Nazarene University operates a WSCUC-accredited 90-acre oceanfront Lomaland campus at 3900 Lomaland Drive overlooking the Pacific near Sunset Cliffs. The Christ-centered liberal-arts institution offers more than 70 undergraduate programs alongside graduate and doctoral tracks, sharing peninsula geography with the nearby public secondary school Point Loma High School, which sits within the Education department's local student-teaching placement radius. Nursing, Business, and Science programs carry the largest undergraduate enrollment, each running as degree-granting departments within the Lomaland hill-campus academic structure. PLNU fields 11 NCAA Division II teams in the Pacific West Conference, with athletic facilities distributed across the peninsula campus south of Sunset Cliffs. Elementary-credential student-teachers complete supervised practicum hours at nearby SDUSD elementary schools — Cabrillo Elementary School is one of the Point Loma campuses sitting within that geography. The most complex engagement the university handles is the full four-year residential undergraduate experience layered with NCAA athletic participation, study-abroad semesters, and the senior-capstone requirements unique to each of the 70-plus majors across the Lomaland peninsula campus.
