It served as the southernmost lighthouse on the Pacific coast for 36 years before fog and low clouds forced its replacement by a new light closer to the water in 1891.
The interior has been restored with period furnishings to replicate the living quarters of the lighthouse keeper and family. Visitors walk through the parlor, bedroom, and kitchen, then climb to the lantern room for panoramic views of the ocean, bay, and Downtown skyline.
