Established in 2008 by three Point Loma fishing families, Mitch’s Seafood at 1403 Scott Street on the Sunset Cliffs side of the peninsula sources almost exclusively from San Diego and Northern Baja waters—much of it caught by the owners or fishermen they know directly. The rotating menu builds around whatever the local fleet landed that morning, a dock-to-plate sourcing model shared in concept but not in execution by Point Loma Fish Shop down the peninsula. Point Loma seafood at Mitch’s runs the full California-style range: fish tacos in corn tortillas, grilled octopus over white-bean purée, and a tomato-white-wine fisherman’s stew loaded with mussels, clams, squid, and market fish. The waterfront patio on the sportfishing dock pairs that catch with San Diego craft beer and California wine, a marina-adjacent format that overlaps with the Shelter Island beer garden at Eppig Brewing Co. Waterfront Biergarten, though Mitch’s adds a full seafood kitchen to the equation. The most complex plate is the cioppino-style fisherman’s stew—a multi-species broth built over hours, served with baguette, and adjusted nightly based on catch availability.
