Headquartered at 2204 Garnet Ave, Suite 301, in Pacific Beach, 92109, Winds of Africa is a California-registered nonprofit dedicated to strengthening education, community development, and economic systems across multiple regions of Tanzania. The organization operates English-language programs in the Kilimanjaro and Arusha regions, Longido District, Manyara, the Dodoma and Morogoro corridor, and communities near the Serengeti. CEO and co-founder Audra lived in Tanzania for eighteen years and previously worked in mental health care and psychiatric hospitals in San Diego before volunteering in Zimbabwe in 1996 through Visions in Action. Supporters interested in global education initiatives can also explore resources at the Pacific Beach Taylor Branch Library, which sits along the same Garnet Ave corridor. Programs focus on comprehensive English-language instruction, support for schools and institutions serving people with disabilities and the unemployed, and hospitality-industry training designed to build employee confidence and reinforce educational goals in surrounding communities. Co-Director Ian Mamuya brings decades of community development experience in Tanzania and serves as Director of the Marangu Community Development Association, which implements programs in primary and vocational education, health, and small-business promotion in the Kilimanjaro region. The organization’s legal advisor Tony is a California attorney who splits time between the United States and Arusha, overseeing all aspects of the foundation’s operations in both countries. Locals who want to support community-focused organizations in Pacific Beach can also browse donated goods at the Goodwill Retail Store and Donation Center, just a short walk down Garnet Ave. Board member Richard contributes more than 40 years of business development expertise to help guide the nonprofit’s budgeting and fundraising strategy.
