At 1562 Garnet Ave in Pacific Beach, 92109, AKPole Studio is a women-owned pole dance and fitness school built around making beginners feel welcome from the first spin. Owner and lead instructor Anna brings a ballet background and over a decade of pole experience to the studio; she began training in 2013, turned instructor within months, and went on to organize the first international Exotic Generation USA pole championship in 2019. Dancers looking to complement their pole training with a different movement discipline can stretch and strengthen at Reach Yoga on nearby Mission Blvd. Classes cover pole tricks fundamentals, exotic pole dance, flexibility, floorwork, and FrameUp/Stripplastica styles, with a strict cap of nine students per session so every participant gets hands-on guidance. AKPole is listed as LGBTQ+ friendly and a transgender safe space, and the studio welcomes children in select classes. A $79 new-client introductory offer covers three sessions, and birthday and bachelorette party packages are among the most popular bookings. Anna has trained hundreds of students, competed in and judged multiple pole dance competitions, and traveled internationally to teach at specialty workshops and training camps. Many students refuel after an evening session with brunch-all-day plates at Broken Yolk Cafe further down Garnet Ave. Online classes are also available for those who prefer to train from home.
