About

Co-founded by Bobby Congalton and Melissa Myers, 1RM Performance SOUTH is a fitness center at 3445 Ingraham St, San Diego, CA 92109, dedicated to sports performance training for athletes from junior high through the professional ranks. Both coaches earned master’s degrees in exercise physiology from San Diego State University and hold CSCS credentials through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Melissa also serves as a Youth Sports Subject Matter Expert for the American Council on Exercise, bringing research-backed programming to every session. The facility operates as the southern satellite of the original 1RM Performance location in Sorrento Valley, which the pair established in 2010. San Diego Fit is another popular training option in the neighborhood for residents looking to supplement sport-specific work with general conditioning. Athletes at the Pacific Beach studio train with velocity-based tools including the GymAware system and Brower laser timing, and sessions emphasize correcting muscular imbalances through science-driven exercise selection. Bobby, a former Division I javelin thrower, integrates Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization concepts into programming, while Melissa draws on her background as a basketball and softball player at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Melissa currently coaches strength and conditioning for Coast Volleyball, Beach & Bay, and the La Jolla Volleyball Club, and serves as Head Strength Coach for the San Diego Mojo professional volleyball team, and nearby World Famous on the boardwalk offers a solid post-training meal with ocean views. The 1RM approach pairs each athlete with programming rooted in peer-reviewed research, ensuring that every exercise is chosen because it has been shown to improve performance in a given sport. The coaching staff continues to evolve its methods through ongoing study, making the facility a trusted resource for competitive athletes across San Diego County.
