Housed in the former La Clochette du Coin space at 4680 Cass St, 92109, The Barista Botanist is a coffee shop and all-day organic café that blends specialty drinks with a plant-shop atmosphere. Chef and restaurateur Michael Harrison opened the concept, drawing on his experience as the opening general manager and executive chef at Palmy's Café on Felspar Street and co-owner of Blue Whale, an all-day beach café in La Jolla. Harrison also operates Munch, a catering and private chef business, and launched Killer Whale Creamery, an artisanal ice cream shop in La Jolla. The entire menu at The Barista Botanist is organic, non-GMO, and seed oil free, featuring espresso drinks, kombucha on tap, superfood smoothies, açaí bowls, avocado toast, sourdough pizzas, and grain bowls. The café earned a 96 out of 100 health score from the county. Sushi fans on the same block can walk to PB Sushi for a quick lunch before or after a coffee run. Alongside the food and drink menu, the shop sells live plants, handmade pottery, and fresh flower arrangements through a florist partner, giving the interior a greenhouse feel with plenty of natural light. Free Wi-Fi and a laid-back atmosphere make it a popular remote-work spot for PB locals. The brand is now expanding to Henderson, Nevada, and the café is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Baked goods enthusiasts exploring this stretch of Cass Street also frequent The French Gourmet for croissants and pastries.
