Tucked inside a converted two-bedroom beach bungalow on the corner of Cass and Loring streets, Gallery At Lands End is an art gallery, custom framing shop, and handmade gift destination at 4984 Cass St in the 92109. Founded in 1973 by Jay and Vicki Ford as a lithography business in Ocean Beach, the gallery relocated to its current Pacific Beach address and became a hub for limited-edition prints, original works, and high-end poster art through the 1990s. Current owner Thayne Yungman, a custom picture framer, woodworker, and photographer, purchased the business in 2008 and has since pivoted toward showcasing roughly 35 local San Diego artists and makers. Visitors browsing Cass Street often pair a stop here with lunch at The French Gourmet, a beloved north PB bakery just a short walk south. The retail side carries handmade ceramics, artisan soaps, locally crafted jewelry, greeting cards, and photography prints, operating much like a curated in-person version of an Etsy shop where every item can be picked up and examined. On the framing side, the staff draws on more than 70 combined years of design and manufacturing experience, offering over 3,000 moulding choices from 15 manufacturers across the United States and Europe, plus 500-plus mat options including custom fabric and fillet designs. The gallery celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023 and has been recognized on Nextdoor by neighbors who call it a hidden gem in the evolving north Pacific Beach corridor. Mediterranean flavors at Cafe Athena offer another reason to explore the quieter north end of the neighborhood. Hours run Tuesday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with framing consultations available by appointment.
