About

Since Israeli native Oved Haskal converted a former auto parts store on Garnet Avenue into a pool hall and sports bar in 1989, Society PB at 1051 Garnet Ave, 92109, has been a fixture of Pacific Beach nightlife for more than three decades. The 10,000-plus-square-foot warehouse-style space is part sports bar, part pool hall, part restaurant, and part private event center, making it one of the most versatile entertainment venues in the neighborhood. Regulation pool tables, foosball, shuffleboard, and ping pong anchor the gaming floor, while more than 30 large-screen TVs broadcast NFL, NBA, MLB, UFC, and SDSU games throughout the week. Twenty-four beers rotate on tap behind the bar, and the kitchen now features Bubba's Smokehouse BBQ, serving smoked meats and classic barbecue plates alongside the existing menu of pizza, wings, and shareable appetizers. Haskal recently purchased a building on Grand Avenue in Escondido to expand the concept as Society North, a second location that will replicate the PB original with a full restaurant, bar, and gaming area. Sports fans watching the game at Society PB who want to keep the energy going can head down Garnet to 710 Beach Club for live music and late-night drinks closer to the sand. The venue hosts private events, corporate gatherings, and party packages with dedicated event coordinators, and its Monday-through-Friday opening at 4 p.m. shifts to 1 p.m. on Saturdays and noon on Sundays for game-day crowds. Dogs are welcome both inside and on the patio, and the kitchen serves food until 10 p.m. on weeknights and 11 p.m. on weekends. Groups looking for another sports-forward spot along the Garnet corridor can try Sandbar Sports Grill near the boardwalk.
