Founded in 1990 as Southern California's first surf school, Ocean Experience San Diego Surf Camp operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit at 4940 Newport Avenue under a City of San Diego commercial beach-activity permit. The nonprofit arm funds more than ten annual scholarships for at-risk youth and has donated over $7,800 to local schools, including partnerships with OB Elementary PTA through events like the annual Skate for the Kids fundraiser at Robb Field Recreation Center. Summer surf camps run week-long sessions covering ocean safety, board handling, tide reading, and marine ecology, with all instruction led by ocean-rescue-certified coaches. Beyond summer, the organization runs fall and spring after-school surf and skate teams, with skate practices held at Robb Field Skate Park. Conditioning circuits built into the camp curriculum develop the same explosive paddling power and core stability trained at Performance360 nearby. Baja Adventure Tours extend the program into multi-day surf expeditions south of the border for intermediate and advanced students.
