About

Founded in 1914 as the First Baptist Church of Ocean Beach when local Baptists pulled out of the original Union Church congregation, OB One Church remains on the same Santa Monica Avenue parcel more than a century later, having rebranded from First Baptist while retaining its American Baptist Churches USA affiliation. The campus sits directly across from Ocean Beach Elementary School — an adjacency that has held since 1914 and that gives Sunday-morning attendees a low-traffic parking environment when the school lots sit closed. Three weekly services run on Sunday — two in English back-to-back and one in Brazilian Portuguese following them — anchoring a multilingual evangelical presence on the corner. The Portuguese-language service operates as the dedicated Brazilian Church in San Diego ministry, led by a pastor born in Brazil and ordained at OB One in 2005, drawing the regional Lusophone Christian community to this Santa Monica Avenue corner each week. A casual "come as you are" worship culture, weekly youth-group gatherings, and Vacation Bible School during the summer school break round out the parish ministry calendar. The most ambitious undertaking is the multilingual three-service Sunday operation itself — running back-to-back English and Portuguese liturgies with separate worship teams, separate children’s programs, and a shared sanctuary-and-parking footprint that has to turn over between services within a tight Sunday-morning window.
