Born in 1966 into the Koehler Kraft boat-building family on Shelter Island, Jon Koehler Sculpture forges stainless-steel kinetic and static works from a Santa Barbara Street studio in OB’s 92107. Pieces range from three-inch tabletop forms to thirty-foot public installations, a scale that makes the studio a natural commission source for remodel and interior-design practices including CairnsCraft Design & Remodel. A self-taught welding process pushes stainless steel—intrinsically harder to manipulate than copper or aluminum—into buoyant, balloon-shaped forms whose polished surfaces shift with the viewer’s angle. Avant Gallery in Miami signed exclusive representation in 2023, and site-specific installations at Solare Ristorante, the DoubleTree by Hilton, and Liberty Station demonstrate the commercial scale that draws commissions through Dawson Design Group and Point Loma’s architecture community. The most complex builds are multi-component outdoor kinetic sculptures engineered to move in coastal wind while withstanding salt-air corrosion on permanent exterior mounts.
