Completed in 2016 by the Greetings Tour, the Greetings from San Diego Mural at 4225 30th St is a large-scale postcard-style public artwork and one of North Park’s most photographed street-art installations. The mural covers an exterior wall directly behind Belching Beaver Brewery North Park, making it a combined destination for craft-beer visitors and street-art photographers on the 30th Street corridor. Each oversized letter spells out ‘San Diego’ and contains hand-painted depictions of the Hotel del Coronado, Coronado Bridge, Sunset Cliffs, Balboa Park, and Belmont Park, rendered in spray paint and latex with a guest contribution from a San Diego native artist. The mural is part of North Park’s broader public-art circuit, which includes gallery spaces along 30th Street such as Art Produce Gallery on University Ave. The piece’s most intricate design challenge was compressing detailed architectural renderings of San Diego’s coastal and urban landmarks into individually legible letterforms readable at pedestrian scale from across 30th Street.
