Inside Diversionary Theatre at 4545 Park Blvd in San Diego's University Heights, The Clark Cabaret & Bar is an LGBTQ+-centered performance bar with a stage, a full liquor program, and a large patio within the 92116 ZIP. Diversionary Theatre, founded in 1986, is the third-oldest LGBTQ+ theater company in the nation and celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2026 with the Ruby Anniversary Ball on Park Blvd. The Clark Cabaret opened in fall 2021, funded in part by a gift from the estate of Dr. Fritz Klein, a longtime Diversionary board member, and features a permanent historical display created in partnership with LAMBDA Archives of San Diego documenting the cultural legacy of the gay bar as a gathering space.
