Dream School of the Arts San Diego runs a tuition-free after-school enrichment program for fourth- and fifth-graders on Adams Avenue in Normal Heights. Founded by educator and spoken-word artist Kenton Reaves Hundley, the program operates in partnership with First United Methodist Church at 3186 Adams Ave in the 92116 ZIP. Curriculum spans three tracks — performing arts, visual arts, and music — layered on top of academic tutoring and healthy-living workshops that connect to the broader Adams Avenue arts corridor anchored by Diversionary Theatre on Park Blvd in University Heights. Hundley, a guest lecturer and featured poet at San Diego State University, UCSD, USD, and several community colleges, designed the Say It! Spray It! Speak Up. Be Heard. spoken-word workshop that he also facilitates through Via International's Global Education Team. Co-director Cindy Truong holds a Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Development and a Master of Arts in Education with a counseling concentration, both from SDSU, with additional specialization in early childhood transdisciplinary education and trauma-informed care. Academic tutoring sessions run parallel to arts instruction, reinforcing study skills through project-based learning — a model shared by Learning for All, a neighborhood tutoring practice also serving Normal Heights families. Enrollment carries no tuition, no materials fee, and no income requirement, with all funding sourced through church partnership support, individual donations, and grant funding. The program's performing-arts, visual-arts, and music tracks are designed to give fourth- and fifth-graders direct exposure to artistic disciplines before they transition into middle school.
