Helix Water District manages the reservoir as a drinking-water supply, permitting boating and catch-and-release fishing for stocked rainbow trout and channel catfish but prohibiting direct water contact. The on-site marina rents motorboats, rowboats, pedal boats, and kayaks, and a five-mile loop trail connects the campground to ridgeline overlooks popular with hikers and birders. A Super Site pavilion accommodates groups of up to 12 with covered picnic tables and fire rings, extending the campground's appeal to family reunions and scout troops who combine overnight stays with day hikes at nearby El Capitan County Preserve. Helix stocks the reservoir with hatchery rainbow trout from November through April and channel catfish through summer, maintaining a bass fishery that has produced blue catfish exceeding 15 pounds.
