Cactus County Park in Lakeside spans 59.98 acres on Ashwood Street near El Capitan High School, anchoring the eastern end of the Ashwood corridor with ball fields, a one-mile trail, and a radio-controlled model airplane airstrip. The park's BMX track draws competitive riders from across East County San Diego to a facility that Cactus Park BMX maintains under a separate lease for sanctioned races and public practice sessions. San Diego County Parks launched a multi-phase improvement project in late 2025 that includes ADA parking upgrades, rubberized safety surfacing, a full playground replacement with structures for ages two through twelve, and an inclusive orbit spinner. Four softball fields and batting cages anchor one of Lakeside's densest youth athletics complexes, positioned along an Ashwood-to-Woodside fitness corridor that includes Planet Fitness less than two miles west. The current improvement scope also covers dugout renovations, replacement of perimeter fencing, new bleacher shade structures, and grant-funded sports field lighting from the San Diego River Conservancy for the girls' softball diamonds.
