Barona Oaks Motocross in Lakeside is an 83.8-acre facility on Wildcat Canyon Road that has operated for more than 40 years as one of Southern California's primary motocross training grounds. Three machine-groomed and watered tracks — a main course, a mini/peewee circuit, and a dedicated beginner training area — span 5.2 miles of off-road terrain, sharing the Wildcat Canyon motorsport complex with Giant Paintball and the adjacent drag strip and oval track. Alumni include motocross champions Jeremy McGrath, Ricky Johnson, and Broc Glover, as well as three-time NASCAR Cup winner Jimmie Johnson, all of whom logged early-career laps at the facility. A 2025 preliminary grant application to California's Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division targets infrastructure upgrades and grounds maintenance at the Barona MX site. Riders fueling up before the drive out to Wildcat Canyon often stop at Mary's Donuts & Coffee on Maine Avenue in downtown Lakeside. RV camping pads, permanent restroom and shower facilities, spectator bleachers, and a concession stand support multi-day practice sessions and sanctioned race weekends.
