About

The Alpine Library Friends Association, known as ALFA, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that fundraises for and supports the Alpine Branch of the San Diego County Library at 1752 Alpine Boulevard. ALFA operates a volunteer-staffed bookstore inside the library with paperbacks from $1, hardcovers from $2, and children's books from 25 cents, a community book-resale model shared by the Lakeside FOL Bookstore at the Lakeside branch on Woodside Avenue. Proceeds from bookstore sales, annual memberships, and donations fund Alpine Library programming, with the San Diego County Library providing matching funds to purchase additional bestsellers, e-books, and audiobooks. ALFA raised $460,000 for fixtures and furnishings in the current Alpine Library building that opened in 2016, a capital campaign that drew support from community partners including Alpine Woman's Club on Alpine Boulevard. The bookstore inventory spans hundreds of titles organized by subject and alphabetized, with rotating selections that occasionally include collectible and rare editions alongside current fiction and nonfiction.
