About

American Legion Post 282 on University Avenue in La Mesa has served the region's veterans continuously since its charter date of June 28, 1923, making it one of the oldest veteran posts in San Diego's East County. The facility at 8118 University Avenue houses Post 282 alongside VFW O.K. Ingram Ship 1774, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 282, and Air Force Sergeants Association Chapter 1365, a multi-organization campus that hosts catered events supplied by La Mesa kitchens including Aromas of India. The recently remodeled upper banquet hall seats 200 with a maximum capacity of 299 and includes a full theatrical stage, commercial kitchen, and bar for private rentals including corporate events, weddings, and community ceremonies. Post 282 owns and maintains California's first Vietnam Veterans Memorial, constructed in 1970 and rededicated on Flag Day 2014 at the intersection of University Avenue and Spring Street. Memorial ceremonies, Flag Day observances, and Veterans Day programs at the Nebo Drive site incorporate ceremonial color guards and formal wreath presentations arranged through La Mesa florists like Allen's Flowers & Plants. The remodeled upper hall deploys overhead stage rigging, a commercial-grade kitchen with hood ventilation, and a separate bar service area configured for simultaneous dining and performance events accommodating up to 299 occupants.
