A 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving La Mesa's visual-arts community for over 70 years, the Foothills Art Association operates Porter Hall gallery on Memorial Drive with approximately 160 active members. The gallery stages monthly rotating exhibitions featuring original work in traditional, digital, photographic, and mixed-media disciplines, with member pieces available for purchase alongside curated handmade goods at nearby retailers including Blueprint Collective Home & Gift Store. The association's signature event, the Wildlife in Art exhibition, has run for over 35 consecutive years each November, drawing entries from across Southern California. Free artist demonstrations by visiting practitioners accompany each monthly meeting, covering techniques from gold-leaf gilding to acrylic abstraction, with follow-up workshops and supply sourcing through La Mesa art retailers including Hobby Lobby on Fletcher Parkway. From April through September, the association operates a booth at the La Mesa Village Farmers Market alongside a concurrent gallery reception, extending exhibition programming beyond Porter Hall's walls into La Mesa Village's busiest weekly foot-traffic event.
